This may sound rather odd

As one of the many parents out there, concerned about the amount of time my children spend on devices playing video games or watching strange YouTube videos, I'm about to recommend a product that will encourage them to spend even more time on a device. Yes, that's right.

Before you call me a madman and make for that x button, allow me - if you will - a moment more of your time to explain. Thanks to Osmo, my youngest child's iPad time has been all but consumed with running his own Pizza company via the Osmo Pizza Co. Starter Kit.

Since December 25th, he has begun to hone his entrepreneurial skills, being challenged in areas of maths, time and money management; all the while thoroughly enjoying the process. A very quick setup and calibration with our iPad at home and he was off setting up and running his own Pizza company.

Straight out of the box you get an Osmo Base & Reflector for iPad, a pizza tray, toppings, money tiles and access to the Pizza Co. app. Even the unboxing is fun!

One important note here, is that the bundle does not include an iPad. As such, this bundle is compatible with all iPads except generation 1, iPad Pro 11-inch, and iPad Pro 12.9-inch. Furthermore, the minimum iOS version needed is iOS 9.

You see, while I remain a steadfast advocate for getting our children outside and off their butts, I realise that the times have changed, and the digital revolution is in full swing. That is to say, technology is a part of our lives and so I believe that device time can be productive, if we let it - it's really just a matter of controlling the content that our little one's are consuming. All said and done, Osmo has hit a home run with this product, and I cannot wait to introduce my children to the rest of the learning range!

What is Osmo?

Osmo makes hands-on learning games in which players use objects in the real world to interact with the digital world shown on their iPad. Children playing Osmo have so much fun they don't realize they are learning.

How does Osmo work?

Osmo games are designed to work with an iPad. A child moves at their own speed through multiple levels. Osmo games ship with the game essentials, along with storage. No WiFi is necessary for game play.
